Beautiful Sketches

"Why does a beautiful sketch please us more than a painting? It is because there is more life and less form." ~ Denis Diderot (art critic)

When it comes to beautiful sketches, my dad, David Irvine is the best! My dad recently put several of his lovely, ethereal sketches of ladies on ebay for sale. And they are so gorgeous!
I have many paintings and sketches of my father's and I have to say his pencil sketches are some of my favorite things that he does.

I fondly remember evenings at home when I was a kid - we would all be gathered in the living room watching TV and dad would be sketching figures, or perhaps just a hand or a foot. My father studied at Art Center in Los Angeles and even though he worked a regular job most of his life, he always found time to pursue his art. He has been a great inspiration to me over the years and has passed his artistic desire down to both myself and my nephew Mark. A wonderful gift indeed!
Wonderful sketches Dad! I would buy them all, but I know you won't let me : - )
Here is a picture of my mom and dad right before they were married.
Dad's muse, my lovely mother, Bonne.
Still happy after all this time!

Hi Pandora!
Happy New Year to you and your family!! Hope this note finds you well and creatively inspired.
Your fathers sketches are beautiful! So you know where I'm coming from:
My favorite forms of art is the woman's face and your father creates beauty in his sketches. His figures are all beautiful, ethereal and soulful. Is he a handsome man? It seems artists can't help showing us a glimpse of themselves in their art.
It is admirable that David took the time to peruse his dream. My father came home from work and practiced his banjo and guitar each day of my growing up life. When I was young I wished he were like other fathers. When I grew up I realized the power and glory of finding ones unique niche. You are blessed to have your dad. No wonder you find the time to create!!

Hi Constance - thank you for your wonderful comment! Yes, dad is a very handsome man - I will add a picture to my post so you can see :-) I was so blessed to be raised by a sensitive artistic person and also by my lovely down-to-earth nuturing mother. I think you and I were both extremely fortunate to have had amazing, unique parents! Oh and I think mom is the inspiration for the gorgeous sketches dad does - he likes to draw dark haired ladies like my mom!

Diane- what a special quality and gift. Your dad is extremely talented. And I agree, a sketch is so personal. And to know that your mom and dad are still in love etc., that's all the more special. I think they're pretty lucky to have you, too.
